DRAWINGS FOR PORT OF SF SEAWALL TIDAL POOLS PROPOSAL
2019 Pierside Pools for Port of San Francisco with Terri McFarland and Laura Jerrard.
Our white paper  advises the Port of San Francisco that the seawall design needs to create  tidal pools for swimming and marsh life. San Francisco is redoing the seawall and the Embarcadero. This whitepaper of our proposal drawings is currently featured on the Port's website as a  reference offering for potential developers for meeting their  public benefit requirements . Port was seeking public-oriented concepts offered to the public domain for sites to be redeveloped in subsequent RFQs: https://sfport.com/sites/default/files/Planning/Piers%20RFI%20Responses/HarborPool-attachment.pdf
We are  excited that a likely build for piers 30-32 appears to use our design: https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/Can-a-swimming-pool-floating-on-the-bay-unlock-17593806.php

This project received mountain of press and interest and mentions too numerous to list here. I spoke about my art research on the vanished Lago Delores in the Mission on behalf of Southern Exposure at the De Young Museum in June 2007, to a packed audience. I still plan to do some writing on how this project played out in public. The Oakland museum was calling about where I got my maps (original research, I made them with a group of landscape architects), and is the subject of several phd theses-- projects such as “Marking and Missing: memory-performance and the radical present” Sarah Kanouse, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. And mentions such as in Public Works Artists Interventions 1970s-Now edited by Christian L. Frock and Tanya Zimbardo. Many pop up on Google search "mission lake ledia carroll". Another anthropology dissertation even featured me among  artworks she argues led to gentrification of the Mission. The chalk drawing portion of the project was even copied whole by a NYC artist. I especially like this article, originally published in Artwork, 2007 which frames this fundamentally as a drawing and walking project.

*: Most projects have involved my procuring elaborate donations and support from diverse entities such as fountain pump suppliers, glass manufacturers, trucking companies, ice manufacturers and so on. These are not grants or awards per se but have significantly contributed to the funding of my art work.

** As an undergrad I worked for 3 school years at the MIT Media Lab as a paid research assistant on many grant funded projects such as a documentary production about Jerome B Wiesner https://ic.media.mit.edu/projects/JBW/credits_j.htm
I am credited for my fairly minor contributions on many thesis projects and  papers from that time. However it was this work that taught me about grants and how to seek collaboration with sponsors.
